Where Shopmonkey wins
Ease of use, and it is not close. Shopmonkey’s estimate-to-invoice flow makes sense the first time a service writer sees it. If your shop is coming off paper or a dated desktop system, your team will be writing tickets in Shopmonkey days sooner than in Tekmetric.
The thing to check is the real price. Some Shopmonkey tiers are per-user, so an owner, two writers, and four techs can land far above the advertised number, and features you might assume are standard (QuickBooks sync, some inspection tooling) live in higher tiers. Quote it for your actual headcount.
Where Tekmetric wins
Depth. Tekmetric’s reporting can tell a general manager which advisor’s average repair order slipped this week and why. Workflow boards, job costing, multi-shop rollups — if you run on numbers, Tekmetric gives you numbers nobody else matches.
The cost of that depth is cost. Entry starts around $399 a month (full pricing breakdown here), and the reports that justify the price only pay for themselves if someone actually reads them. A shop without a dedicated manager role usually will not.

Is Tekmetric better than Shopmonkey? For reporting depth and multi-shop operations, yes. For a small shop’s day-to-day speed and learning curve, Shopmonkey is the better experience. “Better” is the wrong question — “built for my size” is the right one.
